How to Import an ICS File into Apple Calendar

What Is an ICS File?

An ICS file is a universal calendar format supported by virtually every calendar app, including Apple Calendar (formerly iCal). Whether you've received an event invitation or created events with Text2ICS, importing them into Apple Calendar is quick and easy.

Import on Mac

There are several ways to import .ics files on macOS:

Double-Click the File

1. Locate the .ics file in Finder.
2. Double-click it. Apple Calendar will open automatically.
3. Choose which calendar to add the event(s) to.
4. Click OK to confirm.

Use File > Import

1. Open Calendar on your Mac.
2. Go to File > Import in the menu bar.
3. Select your .ics file and click Import.
4. Choose the destination calendar and confirm.

Import on iPhone and iPad

On iOS and iPadOS, importing ICS files is usually as simple as tapping:

1. Receive or download the .ics file (via email, AirDrop, Safari, or Files).
2. Tap the file to open it.
3. Apple Calendar will show a preview of the event.
4. Tap Add to Calendar.
5. Choose which calendar to add it to and tap Done.

Using iCloud Calendar

You can also import events via iCloud Calendar on the web:

1. Go to icloud.com/calendar.
2. Click the gear icon in the bottom-left and select Import.
3. Choose your .ics file and select a destination calendar.
4. Click Import.

Events will sync automatically to all your Apple devices via iCloud.

Troubleshooting

• File doesn't open in Calendar: Make sure .ics is associated with Calendar in Finder (right-click > Get Info > Open with).
• Events appear on the wrong date: Check the timezone settings in System Settings > Date & Time.
• Events don't sync to iPhone: Ensure iCloud Calendar sync is enabled in Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Calendar.
