How to Import ICS Files into Google Calendar

A step-by-step guide to creating .ics files with Text2ICS and importing them into Google Calendar.

What is an .ics file?

An .ics file (iCalendar) is the universal standard for sharing calendar data. It is supported by Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and virtually every calendar application. When you create an .ics file with Text2ICS, it is ready to import into Google Calendar immediately.

Step 1: Create your .ics file with Text2ICS

Use any of the Text2ICS converter tools to generate your .ics file:

Once you click "Download .ics", you will have a file ready to import.

Step 2: Open Google Calendar

Go to calendar.google.com on your desktop browser. The import feature is only available on the web version — it is not accessible from the Google Calendar mobile app.

Click the gear icon in the top-right corner, then select Settings.

Step 3: Import the .ics file

  1. In the left sidebar, click Import & Export
  2. Click Select file from your computer
  3. Choose the .ics file you downloaded from Text2ICS
  4. Select which calendar to add the events to (or leave the default)
  5. Click Import

Google Calendar will show a confirmation with the number of events imported. The events will appear on your calendar immediately.

Step 4: Verify your events

Navigate to the dates of your imported events to confirm everything looks correct. Check that:

  • Event titles match what you expected
  • Dates and times are correct
  • Locations are included (if applicable)
  • Events appear in the right calendar

Troubleshooting

If your .ics file does not import correctly:

  • Events not showing? Make sure you are looking at the correct date range. Check the calendar selector to ensure the right calendar is visible.
  • Wrong times? Google Calendar uses your timezone settings. Check Settings > Time zone to ensure it matches your local time.
  • Import failed? The file may be corrupted. Try re-creating it with Text2ICS, or use the ICS Viewer to inspect the file first.
